Backing up

  Before upgrading, we recommend that you back up your Vividata directory by
  copying it.  For example, assuming your Vividata directory is /opt/Vividata:

    su root
    cd /opt
    cp -R Vividata Vividata.bak

Upgrading from OCR Shop XTR 5.x

Software Installation:


  OCR Shop XTR 6.0 may be installed directly on top of a previous version of
  OCR Shop XTR if it is 5.x.  Follow the software installation procedure described in
  the Installation and Quickstart Guide (ocrxtr_README.txt).

  Click the OCR Shop XTR link "Installation and Quickstart Guide" at
  http://www.vividata.com/support_docs.html to download ocrxtr_README.txt.


Licensing:

  You will need a new license key for OCR Shop XTR 6.0. Install it as
  described in the Installation and Quickstart Guide (ocrxtr_README.txt).

  The new license key will be appended to your existing license file (normally
  /opt/Vividata/config/vvlicense.dat).  Your old license key will remain in
  the license file, but will not be used (for one product, only the last key
  listed in the license file is used).

  After installing your new license key, shut down the license manager with
  the command, for example:

    /opt/Vividata/bin/vvlmstop

  If the license manager was not already running, it will report, "ERROR:
  Failed to contact license manager."  This is ok.
 
  The license manager will start automatically when you next run OCR Shop XTR.

  After the license manager is running again, you can check the status and new
  key with the command, for example:

    /opt/Vividata/bin/vvlmstatus


Troubleshooting:

  If you encounter any errors or have additional questions, please refer to
  the Troubleshooting section of the Installation and Quickstart Guide
  (ocrxtr_README.txt).

Upgrading from OCR Shop XTR 4.x


To upgrade from OCR Shop XTR 4.x to OCR Shop XTR 6.0, follow the instructions
for a new installation in the Installation and Quickstart Guide
(ocrxtr_README.txt).

Be aware that OCR Shop XTR 6.0 includes a major licensing upgrade from OCR
Shop XTR 4.x.  Unlike FlexLM, the new license manager starts automatically
when you first run OCR Shop XTR 6.0.  The license manager utilities used with
FlexLM are no longer applicable with the new license manager.  You may find a
list of the new license manager utilities and complete license manager
documentation in the Installation and Quickstart Guide (ocrxtr_README.txt).

Confirm OCR Shop XTR 6.0 installation


1. Verify the version number.  Run the command-line, for example:

       /opt/Vividata/bin/ocrxtr -version

   It should report version 6.0 (or more precisely, 6.0.2, 6.0.4, etc.)


2. Test OCR Shop XTR 6.0 using a sample file now provided with the
   distribution.  Run the command-line, for example:

        /opt/Vividata/bin/ocrxtr /opt/Vividata/bin/letter.tif

   OCR Shop XTR should run without errors and generate a text output file.
